Scandium is a chemical element with the element symbol Sc and atomic number 21. Simple substance is a soft, silvery white transition metal, often mixed with gadolinium, erbium, etc., with a small yield, and a content of about 0.0005% in the earth's crust.

Scandium is slightly yellowish or pink when oxidized by air, and is easily weathered and slowly dissolved in most dilute acids. However, in strong acids, an impermeable passivation layer is easily formed on the surface, so it does not react with a 1:1 mixture of nitric acid (HNO3) and hydrofluoric acid (HF).

Scandium is often used to make special glass and lightweight high-temperature resistant alloys, and scandium doped aluminum nitride films can be used as filters.
