Copper zinc alloy is also called brass. Brass is an alloy composed of copper and zinc. Common brass is a binary alloy of copper and zinc. Its zinc content varies widely, so its room temperature structure is also very different. According to the Cu-Zn binary phase diagram, there are three kinds of room temperature microstructure of brass: brass with zinc content below 35%, and the microstructure at room temperature is single-phase α Solid solution composition, called α Brass; The microstructure of brass with zinc content ranging from 36% to 46% at room temperature is composed of( α+β) Two phase composition, called( α+β) Brass (two-phase brass); The microstructure of brass containing more than 46% - 50% zinc at room temperature is only composed of β Phase composition, called β Brass.
The zinc content of brass used in industry is not more than 45%. The higher the zinc content, the brittleness will occur and the alloy properties will deteriorate.
