Vanadium is a silver gray metal. It has a high melting point and is a refractory metal. It is ductile, hard and non-magnetic. It has the ability of resisting hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, and its resistance to air, salt and water corrosion is better than most stainless steels.

High purity vanadium thin films have the characteristics of hydrogen storage, high temperature superconductivity, small fast neutron absorption cross section and corrosion resistance to liquid sodium. They are often used in hydrogen storage alloys and hydrogen separation membranes, high temperature superconductors, and protective materials and heat release elements for fuel rods of high-speed value-added reactors.
